About 1 p.m. Friday afternoon, U.S. Capitol Police arrested a man carrying a shotgun as he walked south on 1st Street, NE.
Investigators say 38-year-old Michael Steven Gorbey was openly carrying the weapon as he walked down the street. Officers drew their weapons and confronted the man; no shots were fired.

Investigators say they searched the man's vehicle, which was found parked on North Capitol Street near D Street. Capitol Police say officers found "items of concern" in the pickup truck including several guns, ammunition, sealed containers, and wires. Suspicious packages inside the truck were disrupted by a remote control robot.

WTOP radio reports a source close to U.S. Capitol Police says the man was wearing a tactical vest, with 30 rounds of shotgun ammunition and had a backpack with a compound bow and Samurai sword.
The man allegedly lives in Utah, but has wife and kids in West Virignia, according to WTOP sources. They also report the man has a long rap sheet, including a number of weapons charges. In 1994, the man was questioned for flying over Camp David's restricted air space, the WTOP source says.
Police established a large perimeter around the scene. Investigators say it will be in place for some time. Gorbey was charged with felon in possession of a firearm.
Gorbey appeared in D.C. Superior Court for an arraignment Saturday morning.
Authorities say he will continue to be held without bond and has a detention hearing scheduled for January 23rd.
Gorbey's truck was found parked on North Capitol Street near D Street.
