The DC City Council voted 12-to-1 to recognize gay marriages performed in other states. Congress has 30 days to review the measure and ultimately has the final say. Even though Democrats control the House, Senate and White House, it's not a given that they'll want to jump into a culture war issue that rallies the GOP base in much the same way the issue of abortion does.
During Tuesday's 6pm hour of Live Tonight, two local pastors debated the issue. Bishop Harry Jackson, Senior Pastor of Hope Christian Church opposes same sex marriage. Bishop Rainey Cheeks, Pastor of Inner Light Ministries supports gay marriage. While they may disagree on the primary issue, surprisingly, they found common ground on thing: Both think it's wrong that the DC Council can't decide the issue without Congressional intervention or approval.
